Marlins Info
The Florida Marlins is a professional major league baseball team. The team is based in Miami Florida. The team is a member of the Eastern Division which has five teams playing in its division. The team was formed in 1993. In June 1991, the National League awarded a franchise to H. Wayne Huizenga, he also owned the Miami Dolphins football team. The team’s first manager was Rene Lachemann. The team gets its name from the big fish that is found in the waters along the Florida borders. In its debut season the team finished last and on the fourth position in the following year. In 1996 the team managed to get hold of the third position in the division. In the following year the team had a strong lineup which consisted of pitchers Kevin Brown, Livan Hernandez, and Al Leiter, the threesome led the team for 53 of the club’s 92 regular-season victories and led the club to the NL wildcard berth. The owner of the team H. Wayne Huizenga was not satisfied with the results and he sold off the team due to financial losses, the team was bought by businessman John Henry during the off-season. In 1997 the team was being managed by Jim Leyland, the team won the Wild-Card finishing 92-70. Marlins also defeated the San Francisco Giants 3-0 in the Divisional Series and then went on to beat the Atlanta Braves 4-2 in the National League Championship Series. In the playoffs the team defeated the Cleveland Indians and won the World Series in 7 games. Livian Hernandez was named the MVP of the World Series in 1997. The Marlins became the fastest expansion team ever to win a World Series crown. The year 1998 was not a very good one for the team as the team slumped to 54-108, making them the first club ever to win a World Series and then lose more than 100 games during the following season. To cover this up the team worked hard and from 2000 to 2002 the Marlins consecutively put up three 75 plus win seasons. In the eleventh season of formation the team won the National League Wild Card for the second time in team history. The team posted a 4-3 win and defeated the New York Mets in September finishing with a overall record of 91-71. The home stadium of the team is Pro Player Stadium in Miami, Florida. Pro Player Stadium in Miami was opened in August 16, 1987. It was formerly known as Joe Robbie Stadium. The Marlins played the first game in April 1995. The surface of the stadium is Tifway 419 Bermuda grass and has a seating capacity of 47, 000. The Uniform color of the team is Black, Gray, Aqua, and White; some Orange and the logo depicts a Circle design with "Florida" and "Marlins" written around it; a marlin jumping through the circle and a baseball in the background. The team has won two Wild Card Titles, two League pennants and two World Series championships.
