Orioles Info
The Baltimore Orioles is a professional Major League Baseball team. The team is based in Baltimore Maryland. The team is one of the five teams that play in the Eastern Division of the American League. The team was formed in 1893 and was originally known as the Milwaukee Brewers, a franchise from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, which played in the minor Western League. In 1900, the team changed its name and now was known as St. Louis Browns. The franchise moved to Baltimore at the end of the 1953 season and was renamed the Baltimore Orioles after the black-and-orange birds of that name. In July 1958, the team played its first ever All Star Game. The game attracted a crowd of 48,829. During his 17 seasons with the Orioles, Earl Weaver, a two-time AL manager of the year, became one of the most admired managers in AL history for his ability to develop players and build winning teams. In 1966 the team traded Milt Pappas and two others for Frank Robinson. Once Frank joined the team he helped the team defeat the favored L.A. Dodgers in the World Series with awe-inspiring pitching and timely power. One of the most popular player with the team includes Cal Ripken Jr., who broke Lou Gehrig's consecutive games played streak and won two MVP awards for Baltimore. The Orioles uniform color consists of the colors black, white and orange, and the logo design is an oriole. The Baltimore Orioles have three world Series (1966, 1970, and 1983), they have been the American League Champions seven times (1944, 1966, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1979, and 1983), have been the Division Champions ( 1969(AL East), 1970(AL East), 1971(AL East), 1973(AL East), 1974(AL East), 1979(AL East), 1983(AL East), 1997(AL East)) eight times and have one Wild Card 1996(AL).The Orioles home stadium is the Oriole Park (open in 1992) at Camden Yards which has a seating capacity of 48,262.
