The Cincinnati Reds is a professional Major League baseball team. The team is based in Cincinnati, Ohio. The team is one of the six teams in the Central Division of the National League. The Cincinnati Red Legs were the first professional baseball franchise. The team was founded in 1869. The team played its debut game the team hired all professional players, the team played against the Mansfield Independents and defeated they by a score of 48-14. In 1869, the Cincinnati Base Ball Club played the entire season with all of its players under contract. The total salary outlay was approximately $11,000. This was the starting of an era of professional baseball and of professional team sports. Originally the team was known as The Red Stockings in the 19th century; the Redlegs, from 1954 to 1960. The team won 130 games in a row between 1869 & 1870. The lineup included Sam Crawford and Cy Seymour. The 1918 team finished 4th, and then new manager Pat Moran led the Reds to a NL pennant in 1919. The 1919 team had hitting stars led by Edd Roush and Heinie Groh while the pitching staff was led by Hod Eller and Harry "Slim" Sallee, a lefthander. The Reds finished ahead of John McGraw's New York Giants, and then won the world championship in 8 games over the Chicago White Sox. In 1930 the team ownership changed hands and the team was bought by Powell Crosley, an electronics magnate. He hired Larry McPhail as manager, who led the team to achieve some good results in the 40s and the 50s decade and finished on the second division. In 1962 the team won 98 games and finished third on the division. The team line up had some of the top players of that season who included Pete Rose, Tony Perez, Johnny Bench and Gary Nolan. In 70s the team was under the guidance of George “Sparky” Anderson. In 1975 he led the team to win 108 games and also win the National League West. In 1975, the Reds won 108 games and won the NL West. Pete Rose was hired to be the Reds player-manager in 1985. The home park of the tam is Great American Ball Park, Cincinnati. It is fourth home of baseball's oldest professional team. The stadium was opened in March 2003. The stadium has grass surface and has a seating capacity of 42, 000. The uniform colors is Red and white, trimmed Black. The logo design is a red "C" with the word "REDS" inside. Some of the winnings of the team include nine division titles, one American Association pennants, nine National League pennants and five World Series Championships. Some of the players to make to the hall of fame include Jake Beckley, Johnny Bench, Jim Bottomley and Mordecai Brown.
