Royals Info

The Kansas City Royals is a professional Major League baseball team. The team is based in Kansas City, Missouri. The team is one of the five teams, which play in the Central Division of the American League. The team was formed under the expansion program. The Royals was formed in 1969. The team got its name from Kansas City’s annual American Royal Livestock Parade and Pageant. The team was formed to fill the vacuum that was created when The Athletics left for Oakland in the 1967 season. MLB looked at the prospect to grant a few more franchise. The Kansas City Royals franchise was granted to Ewing M. Kauffman. The team easily paved its way up as it had some of the top players on the charts who included 1969 Rookie of the Year Lou Piniella, Amos Otis, Paul Splitorff, Cookie Rojas, and Hal McRae. Third baseman George Brett was a prominent member of the team during the 1970s and 1980s. The team manager Bob Lemon guided the team to their first win. The team finished second in the league in 1971. The Royals quickly became successful, winning three straight division championships from 1976 to 1978 under manager Whitey Herzog. After two seasons the team moved its home stadium from Kansas City Municipal Stadium to their present home stadium Royals Stadium. In 1980, the team made its first appearance in the World Series where they were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies in six games. In 1977 the team made a new team record by winning 102 games. The team won their second consecutive division title and had to face the Yankees once again in the ALCS. In the 80s decade the team as a single unit was one of the most powerful team. The team went on to work up the skills of young stars such as Bo Jackson and Kevin Seitzer. The team failed to make to the playoffs. The team ownership changed hands and in 2000 the team was bought by Wal-Mart executive David Glass for $96 million. One of the best manager’s to work with the team was Whitey Herzog, leading the Royals to three straight division championships. The uniform color of the team is Royal Blue and white and the logo design is entwined "KC" on a blue shield topped with a gold crown. The team won the World Series championships won in 1985 and won the AL Pennant in 1980 and 1985. The home stadium of the team is Kauffman Stadium. The stadium has a seating capacity of 40, 625 and was built in April 1973.
