The Philadelphia 76ers is a National Basketball Association team. The team is based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The 76ers team was formed in 1946-47. The team joined the National Basketball Association in 1949-50. The team was formed in 1946 and was earlier named Syracuse Nationals from 1946 to 1963. The team finished in first position in the Eastern Division in 1951-52, defeating Boston and New York with a low margin. In 1954-55, season the team won its first NBA title. In 1963 the team moved to Philadelphia. The 66-67 lineup included center Wilt Chamberlain, guard Hal Greer, forwards Billy Cunningham and Chet Walker; it won 68 games and the NBA title. In the same year the head coach of the team Alex Hannum took control of what turned out to be one of the finest teams of all time. In the next year Philadelphia finished 42-40 and in fourth place in the Eastern Division. The following season the Sixers placed second in the Atlantic Division. Cunningham, Hal Greer. IN the 1977-78 season Billy Cunningham took over as coach, and the team won the Atlantic Division title with a 55-27 record. In the late 1970s and early 1980s the 76ers made four trips to the NBA Finals, claiming the 1983 championship. Those teams featured forwards Julius Erving, George McGinnis, and Bobby Jones; guards Maurice Cheeks and Andrew Toney; and center Moses Malone. In the 90-91 season Philadelphia won the first-round series, but was defeated by the Bulls in the conference semifinals. During the regular season the Sixers team was declining and won nine fewer games than the previous year and had finished second to the Celtics in the Atlantic Division. In the 97-98, the Sixers ended the season with a record of 31-51, a nine-game improvement. Allen Iverson followed last season's Rookie of the Year performance with a strong sophomore season, leading the team in scoring. The uniform color of the team is navy blue, gold, red and sky blue. The logo design is the word "76ERS", with a basketball streaming out of a star behind the logo. The home stadium of the team is Wachovia Center. The stadium has a seating capacity of 21, 600. The arena was completed in 1996 at a cost of $206 million. The team has won three NBA championships 1955, 1967 and 1983.
