Grizzlies Info
The Memphis Grizzlies is a member of the National Basketball Association. The team is based in Memphis, Tennessee. The team was formerly known as the Vancouver Grizzlies till 2001. The Vancouver Grizzlies began NBA play in 1995 along with the Toronto Raptors. The Grizzlies and the Raptors were the first NBA teams to play in Canada, since 1946-47's Toronto Huskies. The team was formed with a few players from other teams under the expansion plan. The team's first draft was Bryant Reeves. He was followed by Shareef Abdur-Rahim, who was the team's third draft. In the next year the team made a fourth draft Antonio Daniels, who would help in improving the team's average. The team in its inaugural year was a through flop with bad shooting, rebound and poor defense. That year the team ended the season with the worst record in the NBA. In the next two years, the Grizzlies worked hard and improved a lot on the weaker points, but failed to make it to the Western Conference title. In 1998, the team failed to perform to the expected mark and won only eight games. The team ownership changed a few times. Some of the best players in the team included Battier, Gasol, Wesley Person, Gordan Giricek, and Cezary Trybanski. In 2001, owner Michael Heisley moved the franchise to Memphis, ending Vancouver's six-year experiment with professional basketball. The team relocated to Memphis for the 2001-2002 season. The team named Jerry West as general manager of the team in 2002. During the 2002-03 season, Hubie Brown was named coach of the Memphis Grizzlies and won the NBA Coach of the Year Award that same year. The team made the NBA playoffs for the first time in the spring of 2004. Till date the team has drafted eight players, which includes two contenders for Rookie of The Year award, forward Shane Battier and Pau Gasol. The uniform color of the team is black, turquoise blue, white, and red. The logo design is a blue bear's head, with "MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES" written below it in stylized block letters. The home stadium of the team is FedExForum. The arena has a seating capacity of 21, 000. The stadium is one of the most uniquely designed stadiums in US.
