New York Knicks is a professional basketball team. The team is based in based in New York. The team was formed in 1946 and was a member of the Basketball Association of America. The Knicks is one of only two teams of the original National Basketball Association that is still located in its original city of formation. The team played its first game in November 1946 and defeated the Huskies 68-66 in Toronto. The head coach of the team was Neil Cohalan and the starting lineup consisted of Ossie Schectman, Stan Stutz, Jake Weber, Ralph Kaplowitz, and Leo "Ace" Gottlieb. In the same season Neil was replaced by Joe Lapchick as head coach. He led the club to five consecutive playoff appearances after the founding of the NBA in 1949. In its debut season the team posted a 33-27 record. The team won its first game in 1946 and managed to reach the NBA finals three times in the 50s. The team again in 70s managed to reach the finals and captured the 1970 and 1973 finals. The Knicks also reached the NBA Finals in 1994 and 1999, but was defeated both times. In the 1950-51 season the team posted a 36-30 win and moved to the finals. In the finals the Knicks was defeated by Rochester Royals. In the same year the team drafted forward Nathaniel “Sweetwater” Clifton, who became one of the NBA's top rebounders. With guard Dick McGuire and center Harry “the Horse” Gallatin, New York again advanced to the NBA Finals in 1952 and 1953, but was defeated by the Minneapolis Lakers. In the 67-69 season the team was altogether in a different shape after coach Red Holzman replaced Dick McGuire in halfway of the season. The new coach led the team to a 28-17 finish. The team ended the season in a 43-39 record which was the teams first winning season since 1958-59. In the next season the team won 60 games and reached the NBA finals playing against the Los Angeles Lakers. The team after a tough series game won the first NBA crown. Once again in 1993-94, the team reached the NBA finals, but was defeated by the Houston Rockets. In the same year former Milwaukee Bucks coach joined the team. Coach Don Nelson was later replaced by Jeff Van Gundy in the midseason. In the 1999 season the Knicks finished with the eighth-best record in the Eastern Conference. In the postseason games the team defeated Miami Heat, Atlanta Hawks, and Indiana Pacers and made a place for the team in the NBA finals. In the finals the team lost to the San Antonio Spurs, four games to one. The uniform color of the team is blue and orange. The logo design is New York Knicks above a basketball. The home stadium of team is Madison Square Garden.
