In 1968-69, the team struggled hard but only won 5 of its first 20 games. The first player to join the team was Roger Brown. The Pacers had won three championships 1970, 1972 and 1973. The head coach of the team was Coach Bob Leonard. He led the team to seven consecutive winning campaigns. The team averaged 119.6 points, a franchise record that still stands. The lineup up included center Mel Daniels and forwards George McGinnis and Roger Brown. In 1972-73, once again the team won the ABA champions. The team posted a 51-33 regular-season record, which included an 11-game win. The team finished second on the Western Division but was defeated by Kentucky in the playoffs in a seven game streak. McGinnis won the series Most Valuable Player Award, capping a standout season. The 1973-74, the team logged a solid 46-38 record but fell in the playoffs to Utah. The Pacers moved to its new stadium Market Square Arena in 1974-75. The team was in a drastic condition in 1976-77, when the they were defeated by the Golden State Warriors with a 59 point margin, the worst defeat in franchise history. The team ended the season 36-46. In 1983 the team ownership changed hands, Sam Nassi, who was the owner sold the team to Melvin and Herbert Simon. In 1994-95, the team had good success and they posted a franchise-record of 52 wins. In 1997, the head coach of the team was Larry Bird, he earned coach of the year honors, after leading the club to 58 wins and 24 losses, the best record in franchise history.
