Minnesota Timberwolves is a professional basketball team formed in 1989. The team got its name after a contest was held, the team received 6,000 plus entries featuring 1, 284 different names. The Timberwolves played their debut game in November 1989, losing to the Seattle SuperSonics on the road 106-94. Five days after loosing their first game, the Minnesota Timberwolves beat the Chicago Bulls 96-84. The team's first draft was Jerome “Pooh” Richardson and he was later named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team in 1989-90. The team finished their season with 22 wins and 60 losses, finishing in 6th place in the Midwestern Division, as Tony Campbell led the team with 23.2 ppg. The matches drew over 1 million fans and set the record for the 3rd largest crowd in NBA history at 49,551 on April 17, 1990. In 1991-92 season the seventh pick of the team Luc Longley was the first Australian to play in the NBA. The team's final result was 15-67, which was the worst in history. The 1995-96 season was full of struggles and the team finished 26-56, this was the second-best season in their seven-year history. In 1996-97, the Timberwolves made the playoffs for the first time. In 1997, Kevin Garnett and Stephon Marbury established themselves as two of the brightest rising stars in the NBA as Garnett averaged 18.5 ppg while pulling down 9.6 rebounds per game. After dropping Game 1 on the road to the Seattle Supersonics in the playoffs the Timberwolves earned their first postseason win in Game 2 winning in Seattle 98-93. In 1998, Kevin Garnett signed in with the team for a 6-year, $126 million contract. The Wolves made the playoffs for the 3rd straight season by finishing in 4th place with a 25-25 record. In the playoffs the Timberwolves were defeated by the San Antonio Spurs in 4 games. In 1999, Wally Szczerbiak was the new draft in the team. Wally assisted by Kevin helped the team to post a 50-win season finishing in 3rd place with a solid record of 50-32. During the 2003-04, NBA season the T Wolves had their best season to date. The team beat Denver and Sacronmento in the first two rounds of the NBA play offs before losing to the Lakers in the Western Conference finals. The team's uniform color is black, blue, white, green, and grey. The logo is a snarling wolf rising from a green forest, the words "Minnesota" and "Timberwolves" embossed. The home stadium of the team is Target Center. The stadium has a seating capacity of 19, 000.
