The Golden State Warriors is a National Basketball Association team. The team is based in Oakland, California. The team was founded in 1946. The team was owned by Eddie Gottlieb, he also served as the general manager and head coach of the team. The team was formerly known as Philadelphia Warriors, San Francisco Warriors. The Philadelphia Warriors were one of the 11 charter teams of the BAA in 1946. The Philadelphia Warriors won the first championship of the Basketball Association of America (BAA) defeating the Chicago Stags in 1947, the team featured high-scoring guard Joe Fulks. After a four year gap the team won the Eastern Division, the lineup included guard/forward Paul Arizin, and guard Andy Phillip. In 1956, the Warriors won its first National Basketball Association. In 60s center Wilt Chamberlain helped the team in winning a few titles and win the NBA rookie of the year and most valuable player (MVP) honors that season. In 1960, the team ownership changed hands and Gottlieb sold the team to some investors. In 1965-66, Rick Barry a famous shooter joined the team. He led the league in scoring, averaging 35.6 points per game. In the next year the Warriors managed to clinch the Western Division but lost the NBA Finals to the 76ers. In the 70s beginning the team was renamed Golden State Warriors and the team moved to Oakland. The team won its second NBA title in 1975, at that time the team had some top performers on the rolls including Rick Barry, Clifford Ray, and Jamaal Wilkes. In the next year the team managed to reach the league championships but was defeated by the Baltimore Bullets. Under the guidance of head coach Alvin Attles the team managed to capture a few titles. In the same year the Warriors had to face the Bullets and won the series. In the 80s Alvin retired and Don Nelson took the charge as head coach. In 80s end the team drafted guard Sarunas Marciulionis, he was the first NBA player from the former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. The uniform color of the team is midnight blue, golden yellow, and red. The logo design is a stylized blue tinted man (a Native American warrior, which is a throwback to previous logos) holding a lightning bolt on a basketball background. The home stadium of the team is Oakland Arena.
