Mike Mularkey's first season as Buffalo head coach was hopeful they could change a few things about this team from last season. Deep drops, Drew Bledsoe holding the ball too long, and too many sacks. If the team's first two weeks are any indication, the team has not figured out how to solve the problem yet. Bledsoe is still taking too many hits and has had troubles adapting to the quick pass system installed during the offseason. Some have asked if Bledsoe can be secure in his job, but the Bills are without their backup at the position as well, JP Losman's preseason injury, which ended his rookie campaign before it could really begin, will prevent Mularkey from inserting the quarterback of the future in Buffalo. With Bledsoe safe in his starter's role for another year atleast, the team must fall back on its strengths. The second-best defense of 2003 returns most of its starters and has looked good early in the year, and the team has many strong players in the specialty positions. Almost too many good players at the running back position threatened team chemistry early in the season when a public dispute over the starting halfback job was rumored. Travis Henry has had the job for two years, but last season's first round choice Willis McGahee was rumored to have demanded the starting job. An uneasy partnership has emerged between the two who if they work together could provide the best halfback tandem in the NFL. Eric Moulds is one of the best receivers in the AFC and his return to healthy should provide another suitable sparkplug for this offense to get going. The team has the strength at the skill positions, it just has to find out if the most important skills player on the team, Bledsoe, has any gas left in his tank.
