Last year’s revival of one of the most storied franchises in American sports history was led by one of football’s all-time best coaches, Bill Parcells. The Dallas Cowboys looked like the same team that had just completely two consecutive 5-11 seasons coming into 2003, but the always tough Parcells recreated the defense into a winner, making it the strongest defense in the NFL and leading the team back into the playoffs. In 2004 he’s given the team a more personal approach by bringing in former players Vinny Testaverde and Keyshawn Johnson to lead the offense, along with former Tennessee workhorse Eddie George to take the handoffs. The running game is still stagnant this season, but Testaverde has come out throwing the football, tied for second in attempts and fifth in yards passing. Testaverde has helped the team get off to a fast 2-1 start, but not without a sense of pessimism. The team’s running game is ranked 28th in the league after three weeks, and the dominating defense of last season is now ranked 17th in the league. If any coach is going to be able to make the adjustments necessary to take the current situation and keep Dallas winning, it’s Parcells who will continue the fourth rebuilding project of his career until it reaches his satisfaction.
